Android users now have more reasons to make use of the Opera Mini browser as the Norwegian software company added new features to the latest version of the browser released recently. The latest version, which is available on the Android OS, now comes with a new compression technology.

The new version of the browser comes with a new technology that now requests web pages through one of Opera Mini’s data-saving servers. This gives users the ability to switch between the two different data compression modes—High and Extreme, thereby helping Android users to save their data.

Android users in Nigeria complain bitterly about the rate at which their data is being consumed on their Android phones. It is a big problem for them.

The newly added High-compression mode compresses web-pages without affecting the page display or image quality. This makes it the perfect choice when surfing the web on 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi networks. The Extreme-compression mode on the other hand, compresses web-pages extensively. This presents Android users with a scaled-down version of a webpage but with a very high-speed Internet experience.

“Only half of the mobile population in India is connected to 3G networks, while in Indonesia, more than half of all smartphone users experience network problems daily. And, people all over the world turn off their phones while travelling, due to fear of data-roaming costs. In each case, Opera Mini offers a better web experience,” says Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software.

Boilesen further said: “We are continuously striving to improve user experience, lowering barriers to get online in all kinds of conditions.”
