When is the Lumia 940 Coming Out?
Ever since Microsoft started producing smartphones, they have been focusing on the low-end mobile market, until recently when they dropped a hint insinuating they’ll be adding a high-end flagship in their pipeline. Shortly after we had the news reaching us, somebody within their inner circle came forth and leaked out the specs of the upcoming Microsoft Lumia 940. Which, to say the least, is part of the smartphone reviews that are all in rage as we speak.
Based on the specs we’ve mustered from PhoneArea, the Lumia 940 will be arriving with a 5-inch 1920 x 1080p display laced up with the next-generation Gorilla Glass 4. Packed under the hood will be a 2.7 GHz Quad-core snapdragon 805 processor with 3 GB of RAM and Adreno 420 GPU. This should guarantee better display, and a better performance that can effectively go head to head with some of the big boys in the market.
For the camera, Microsoft has made it clear that they’ll be padding some of the best camera features on their soon-to-come flagship. If the words making round are anything to go by, we expect to see a 24 MP main camera and a 5 MP front camera for taking selfies and making video calls. Also added will be a 60-fps 4K video recording with 1080 p capabilities.
At such an era when smartphones manufacturers are keeping their handsets compact and somewhat curvy, we don’t expect a giant smartphone from a big company like Microsoft. Although the leaked pictures clearly point out Microsoft may not be giving in to the arcing drift, their coming flagship will all be about compactness and keeping everything light.
To be specific, the next Microsoft Lumia will be measuring 137 x 71 x 8.9n mm, with a measly 149 grams of weight. Though the weight and height will be matching those of Lumia 930, its chunkiness will only be a millimeter shy of Lumia 930’s. Needless to say, the phone will also arrive with a similar framework.
Slated to be released alongside the Lumia 940 is a high-end phablet, Lumia 1330—the purported successor of Lumia 1320. Techno Buffalos also goes on to suggest Microsoft may be adding a number of other smartphones in their pipeline. But there’s a high likelihood that only the Lumia 940 will be running on Windows Phone 10.
Since the plans to develop Gorilla Glass 4 are still underway and windows Phone 10 is still unreleased, it’s unequivocal we may have to wait a while longer before the handset is availed for purchase. Although different rumors suggest the phone may be out anytime during the last quarter of the year, 2015.
As for the cost, there’s a fair chance the phone will be retailed at the same price as Lumia 930’s, with a small wiggle room added in light of the upgraded features. To cap that, we expect to sleeve up about $700 for the phone—$50 more than the price of Lumia 930, especially since the phone will be arriving with Windows 10.
That’s all the info we have concerning the Lumia 940, as per now, though Microsoft has promised to gives us more gen on the handset this coming April. Until then, we can only hope the information we’ve provided is enough to give you a somewhat clear picture of what to expect in the eagerly awaited Lumia 940.
