How To Open Zip and Other archive Files on OS X

It gets quite tricky when it comes to opening archive files, including 7z, when using OS X. Most people actually opt to snub the whole thing simply because they do not understand anything about opening the said files. #Step 1

The first thing that you should do is ensuring that The Unarchiver is installed in you computer. Whichever source that this program comes from, it is important to ensure that you are dealing with the right one. You do not have to be told that malware growth is alarming and finding the wrong Unarchiver is possible. Also, make sure that the installation process is done in the right way for the sake of smooth running.

Once you have completed the installation process, you should then open the program. You will be presented with a list of all preferences once you open The Unarchiver. In this case, you should start with the ‘Archive Formats’. This should present you with all the file formats available, one of them being 7z. On your left hand side, there is a small box adjacent to each file type.

If you have marked the 7z file format, then you should proceed to the extraction part. This is where you will be requested to provide the file destination in your computer. This is one of the default settings that come with The Unarchiver. Again, you will be required to mark some options in order to make the respective settings. Once you have made the necessary selection, you can then extract the file and open it directly from your computer.

It is important to note that there are still other formats aside from 7z that can be used with the help of The Unarchiver. All you need is to select the format that you consider best for you and work with it.

Note: You will realize that there is an ‘Advanced’ button in the tab. This should not bother you much. However, it is still very important to understand that this is where you will find all the advanced options with regard to file extraction and opening. For instance, you will be able to set the necessary file threshold, encoding mode and many other things.
